Actually, all the informants are missing that finger as well. Check again. Al Mualim and the guards aren't, though, for some reason. Behold the angry wizard putt-putt-putting away. User Info: squirrelpieFFF. His hidden blade slides thru were the finger was. I didnt get to into it to look at everyone but im sure some others do too. User Info: EricCrapton. I can see doing something like this to "bond" you into some sort of secret brotherhood. But if you're going to be a secret assassin, having your ring finger i smore helpful than not having it.

It's probably a bit harder to kill someone or steal something when you're missing a finger. If you really have to cut off a finger, it should be the pinky. That's the most useless. Don't cut off something that will hinder your job as an assassin. I Don't Give A Care! Bring me a spoiled family photograph! Cutting off that finger serves a purpose: it gives the hidden blade a place to slide out of cover without risking losing a finger.

Since you already lost it. Losing one finger isn't all that bad, no matter what finger it is. It was a "pretty traumatic" initiation ritual on the day he became a Master Assassin.

I don't think it's ever specifically stated. It could have been an accident or it could have been a punishment. In Africa fingers were sometimes cut off as a punishment for adultery or theft. Sometimes fingers would be taken as a proof of victory in battle, so perhaps he was left for dead on a battlefield then recovered.

One thing is fairly certain - it was not a ritual amputation by the Assassins - El Mualim has all his fingers and so do the other Assassins. Plus it would be a bit of a give-away if the authorities could foil a Master Assassin by simply counting how many fingers each suspect had. As in, he's not actually going on missions and using the Hidden Blade. And we don't SEE any other Assassins of Altair's original rank, in fact it's implied that since the crippling of Malik who'se original rank was beneath Altair anyway , Altair is the last Grand Master assassin in the clan.

It could be a ritual reserved for Grand Masters, and thus, Altair is the only one around missing a finger. And in Japan, Yakuza chop off fingers in dishonor. I doubt that's what it is. The Order had a rite of passage for every new assassin.

This served to insure the devotion of the Assassin to the Order. The Hidden Blade at the time, was designed very flatly, and this sent it out in a way that could do harm to the ring finger of the Assassin, so the finger was removed for this reason too.

The first group of assassins to be found in the historical record is that of the Hashshashin who operated in Persia, Syria, and Turkey, eventually spreading throughout the Middle East.

They assassinated their political and financial foes until the organization met its own demise in the middle of the 13th century. Altair himself belonged to a sect of Islam called Nizari Ismailism, his mother was Christian, and his father most likely also a Nizar Ismailist Muslim. But Ezio would have been Catholic, Conner was most likely Mohawk animist, and Edward…well, bugger, he worship plunder.

In Discovery, the mobile game set in Spain, Ezio refers to himself as a non-believer when speaking with Torquemada. There is no god, Our Creed is but Our Own. So i assume they are athiest. The assassins Altair and Ezio knew of TWCB, and the history of the world Given what they know it contradicts religion, because the earth is proved to have been much much older than the religious teachings speak, right?
